I remember when this fascination for line and color was born in me. Come to think of it, it seems to me that it was a logical progression, it is an ocean story.

The little streams were the classics of comics and animation, which I devoured in my early childhood. The convergence of these small streams into impetuous rivers made of strokes of colors, movements, reliefs and emotions took place during my adolescence, when, enthusiastically, I discovered the masters of Impressionism and some great sculptors.

I then made my first attempts, trying to paint from photographs. A little later, it is the admiration for the Surrealists, in particular the technique, the imagination and the freedom of the subjects of Dali which ended up taking me on a long journey of discovery of the different styles which constitute the Art of painting, this great ocean.

In my first period, canvases inspired by photos soon bored me. The straight line, the strict line ended up suffocating me. I felt in me a need for freedom, emotions, poetry that this genre could not bring me.

More undulations, fewer rules and constraints led me to this style that is described as "Primitive Modern" or Naive, it doesn't matter, I paint as I like, naturally.

Valerie Lacalmontie

Born in Chamalières France

Lives in Arcachon, France

Valérie Lacalmontie, born in 1971, has been fond of drawing and painting since a very young age. She took evening classes at the Beaux Arts in Clermont-Ferrand, then joined the Faculty of Plastic Arts in Bordeaux in 1991. She has been painting full time and exhibiting since 1998.

Valérie Lacalmontie's paintings do not impose constraints on the gaze but something light, peaceful, which emanates from them and invites the mind to serenity, to rest.
No straight line forcing the eye to fit into a completely geometric perspective, on the contrary, the entirety of his painting undergoes a gentle undulation which arouses movement and affirms the life of the daily scenes represented.
In his works, the constant curvature, the warmth of the colors and a certain timelessness ward off the ordinary and boredom. N.LC
